There have been times in may artistic career when I have been tempted to stop painting. It's taxing. There is, however, always one pure benefit to painting, especially painting from life, which makes it worth it. When I paint, I learn to see.
I sat in my back yard set up with palette and brush and observed this tall palm tree. I saw the way the sun, as it was setting in the late afternoon, cast it warm hues upon the bent fronds. I saw how the shape of the tree subtly changed over time, old ones falling (actually, crashing down and almost knocking me over) and new ones growing.
This is a painting of a palm tree. A record of my time observing.
